Know the differences among Australia Subclass 189 and Subclass 190 visa categories

In Australia, the immigrants need the Australia PR visa to successfully stay and work permanently. The country provides two ways to offer sponsorship to the immigrants through Subclass 189 or Subclass 190 visa categories.

Subclass 189 visa consists of a list of 176 jobs wherein the applicant can apply for it. Both the medium and long-term strategic skills are included in the Subclass 189 visa. Since the Australian government desires to improve its economy, it encourages the immigrants to stay and work in any location in the country. But, the applicants need to get 60 points to get the immigration successful in Australia. The IELTS exam score also determines the applicant’s eligibility for this visa.

Currently, it also depends on the points you score in other categories along with your IELTS score. Here, you can find differences among the Subclass 189 and Subclass 190 visa categories. Subclass 190 visa is offered for those who have acquired support from a state in Australia. You can stay and work in the state for a period of 24 months with this visa type. Though, the skills assessment (1st stage) and putting EOI (2nd stage) remains the same for Subclass 189 and Subclass 190 visa categories, the procedure (3rd stage) is completely different from each another.

For Subclass 189, you need to get the permission to apply for a PR through the Department of Home Affairs whereas, for Subclass 190, you need to get the permission from the state. The concerned state sends the sponsorship, which is known as notification of interest. Then, you will need to apply for Subclass 190.

For Subclass 189, you need to apply through the Department of Home Affairs website and then submit the EOI online here and enter into the SkillSelect database. You should make sure that you check MLTSSL to decide whether your occupation is eligible for Subclass 189. For Subclass 190, you need to apply through the website of the Australian province/state and then submit your EOI. Once it is done, you should check STSOL to find out whether your occupation is entitled or not on the list. However, it gets streamlined together with the state lists.
